We had trouble from this one also. The platforms were hardest until we realized the collision detection was necessary. This was when we found a tutorial that combined them both and we finally understood our mistakes. This was a great tutorial even though I still don't know how to make links.

Good job. I ended up using Just the hitTest function in this stuff. It works just the same if you code it right. Good luck with everything.
